You ever wake up and wonder, “what the heck am I doing with my life?”
I made a decision to leave college this year and at first thought it was going to be the best decision ever. And in many ways, it really was.
I got the time and space to do whatever I wanted. I had complete and utter freedom to put my energy into anything I wanted to. Leaving school led to tons of speaking gigs, writing my first book and laying the foundation for some amazing things to happen. Yet, despite all this freedom and amazingness, some days I still feel lost, some days I still have no idea what the heck I am doing.
This all kind of hit me just the other night when I went to the Central Washington University gym (my old schools) to play basketball with my friends. Since I’m not a student they had to get me a guest pass to come in, but once I was on the court, I felt at home.
And not because I was playing basketball which I love to do, no actually I was playing like a buttcheek on a stick (if you know you know), but it was because I got to connect with new people.
We must have been there for 2 hours and by the time we left I knew just about all 35 people we played with on the court that day. I knew their names, where they were from and even some of what they were doing in school.
It was connections that I no longer got every day being locked up in my house tied to the computer doing work. And that one question hit me harder than ever the next morning…
“What the heck am I doing with my life?”
I spent my time building a business and I don’t even like business! It’s confusing and stressful! My favorite thing in the world to do is talk with people, is to connect with people and most importantly to spread love.
And certainly what we do here at Project Love People is geared towards spreading love, but maybe not enough.
I am so tired of just doing work and doing tasks, I want to wake up with purpose. I think we all do. And I think the key to get the bottom of our purpose is…
“What the heck are you doing with your life?”
And if you reflect and think about this question and you don’t like where you are at, take a day and sit in it. Get frustrated. Get angry. Get upset. Feel all of the emotions and pity yourself. Why you might ask? So we can get it out of our systems.
After that, DO SOMETHING ELSE.
It’s that simple.
I mean think about it, if you don’t like what you are doing everyday, do something else! No need to grow bitter and miserable constantly questioning what you are doing in your life, just keep on doing new things until you find what it is that makes you happy and chase that.
This year I have learned that business really isn’t my thing. I love it. I’m intrigued by it. I refuse to stop. But business is not what I do…
LOVING PEOPLE is what I do.
What do you do?
